Marriage...is Hard Work... but is it worth it?

What lessons have YOU learned in YOUR Marriage?

I have been in marriage "bliss" for nearly eight years and I would like to think that I have learned a thing or two. There have been ups and downs, not one more than the other though- which I take as a good sign.

Below are my #35 lessons that I have learned in my own marriage in the past 8 years:

1. A Happy Marriage is hard work!

2. My Hubby has MORE shoes than me. (true story)

3. I could possibly fall out of love with my Hubby. (not saying I will or would but I think I could possibly!)

4. I could fall back in love with my Hubby all over again. (and yes, I do this all the time!)

5. Hair Shavings are ALWAYS in the sink. (I do not require him to tell me that he shaved (for me- as he likes to add)- I ALREADY know and think that someday soon I will GO INSANE because of it!)

6. I have learned that it is very easy to hurt someone you love.

7. I have also learned how HARD it is to apologize! But it is IMPORTANT.

8. I have learned how to give sincere apologies. (also Important!)

9. The whole 'Til Death Do Us Part' might seem like no big deal...well IT IS!

10.  How miserable marriage can make you feel (at times!)

11. How blissfully happy marriage can make you feel.

12. I would, at times...question whether or not "Happily Ever After" really even exists.

13. That I am STRONGER than I ever thought that I was! (I seriously deal with a full time job and two kids under 6 on a daily basis and usually by myself!)

14. That I could feel so much passion, still, 8 years into my marriage. (and it might be more than when we were just dating!)

15. That the sound of him biting Twizzlers would bring me to a point of wanting...desperately..to HIT something!

16. Our differences over discipline and our children, would lead to a public and embarrassing display of him losing his mind. (again, true story!)

17. He would be so opinionated about me saying the wrong word when I thought I had said something else. (OK, yes, I am stubborn too!)

18. That I would find his opinions so irritating.

19. Seeing him succeed could mean more to me than my own success ever would. (I truly mean this! I have never been a prouder wife than I am right now with his career choice!)

20. I would lose myself. (in more ways than 1)

21. Losing myself sounds romantic, but really just leads to me feeling lost.

22. Staying connected to me would be challenging.  (I am sorry honey!)

23.  Time alone with my husband would be scarce and sacred time that I will go to all lengths to find. (Have kids and you will understand!)

24. That I could truly love HIM more NOW than the day I married him.

25. I could be so MEAN. (ouch!)

26. I could depend so heavily on someone else. (even with my stubborn ass, it's so true!)

27. Intimacy plays a vitally, and I MEAN VITALLY, important role in a successful marriage.

28. I would still have to DATE my Husband. (and I love this part!)

29.  That our arguments over the little things would NEVER stop. (Hey, at least it is usually NOT over money!)

30. Love really can GROW! (and it does!)

31. Learning to communicate with my Hubby would be a never-ending challenge. (and it is on both sides!)

32. Having kids would CHANGE EVERYTHING! (understatement of the YEAR!)

33.  That, a nearly 34 year old - after being with the same person for nearly 14 years, I could still feel like a teenage in love.(and act like it sometimes too!)

34. That I can NOT change him!

35. I have a choice. (I have learned to pick my battles!)

I know that might have been a little bit blunt, and if Hubby is reading it, he might think to himself...damn...  but in the end, I am a lucky lady! I married a wonderful man, who has his moments, (as do I!) but at the end of the day I know that he loves me and my girls with all of himself.

I hope that if he were to make the same list, he would be able to be just as brutally honest, because there are times when life is great, life is good and sometimes life just sucks!

Marriage is hard.

No matter what you do.  I think the big difference is being with a person who is not only your lover, your husband but also your best friend and knows how to be the other half!

In our case, I freak out and he is the one to stop, calmly tell me that, Hey, everything will be OK, it will all work out and I will continue to freak out, a little bit milder, but after all is said and done...it all works out.

I would never want to be with anyone else. I never want to lose this person who is by my side day in and day out, and I would go to great lengths to make sure that would never happen. I am with my soul mate and that speaks words beyond my voice!

Life is hard, sharing your life is even harder- but at the end of the day it is SO worth it!

I love you Hubby!

Do you appreciate life?

The 10 Differences Between Those Who Appreciate Life And Those Who Don’t

We are all a part of the elite class, the ones who survive, who live and love and get a chance at life, but do we all appreciate it?
See for yourself:

1. Those who appreciate life don’t work jobs they hate.

To hate your job is to hate the time you spend doing that job. Or, in other words, to hate spending your precious time. We all have to do things that we don’t especially want to do, from time to time.
That doesn’t mean, however, that we should agree to spend 40 hours a week of our time for several years doing something we have to convince ourselves makes sense doing each and every morning that we wake up.

2. They don’t befriend people that aren’t good for them.

We meet people. Unfortunately, most people that we meet don’t add to our lives so much as they take away from our lives.
This isn’t to say they are necessarily bad people – although that may very well be the case – but they clearly aren’t good additions to your life. Respect your life and leave them out of it.

3. They do their best not to date awful people and then do their best to move on as quickly as possible when they find out they are.

Falling for the wrong person happens. We live and we learn. You may not have a say in whom you fall for, but you do have a say in how much time you give that person.
Those who appreciate life most only give time to those worthy of it.

4. They have their priorities straight because they understand what’s important in life and what isn’t.

This is probably the most difficult concept to comprehend fully, simply because there is no singular universal answer. Although, there are some universal guidelines.
Life, love and goodness. How you add to those is up to you.

5. Those who appreciate life don’t take the lives of others for granted.

To appreciate life isn’t to only appreciate your life. It’s to appreciate what life is.
This includes the lives of other people, the lives of other creatures, plants, animals and everything in between. To appreciate life is to appreciate life itself.

6. They never waste a single day.

Time is what fuels life. When you run out of it, your life ends. Your time on this planet ends. All your hopes and dreams, all that you hoped to one day do, to one day see, to one day accomplish, all that comes to an end.
Those who understand how precious life is do not allow themselves to live a day they regret not fully living.

7. They look back from time to time, but don’t live in the past.

The things that we lived through are important to remember. They are filled with life lessons as well as many pleasant memories.
Our past shouldn’t be forgotten, but at the same time we shouldn’t be spending too much of the time that we have left looking back with disdain or sadness. What was, was and no longer is.

8. They are always curious, always trying to understand life more fully and answer life’s most fascinating questions.

A curious soul is a soul that understands the importance of knowledge. Without knowledge, there is no understanding. And without understanding, it isn’t possible to appreciate life for what it is.
Most living creatures are cursed with not being capable of understanding the significance of life. Although, to be fair, many would argue that we are the ones who are cursed because we do understand the significance.

9. They live both fast and slow – because that’s the only way to get the whole picture.

You shouldn’t live your life in one fashion, following one life motto. Living fast and dying young sounds like fun. Until that last part. Living slow and meditating all day sounds peaceful. And boring.
If you want to experience all that life has to offer then you have to live in both extremes, creating your very own balance.

10. Those who appreciate life most are those who understand how amazing they are, that truly love themselves.

If you don’t love yourself then you don’t love life – plain and simple. You are life. As far as you’re concerned, you may very well be the only thing that actually exists. How could you not love yourself?
We are tangible beings that can become anything that we want to be. If you don’t love you now then change and become the person that you want to become, the person that you will love, the person that you are supposed to be.
