5 Ways to Build a Positive Home

How to Build a Home That Boosts Self-Esteem

Confidence in a child is something that is so important.  It starts at home...along with so many other qualities, i.e. charity, compassion, and chivalry. Confidence is so important because, let's face it, kids self esteem these days is at an ultimate low. Between bullies and the way the media criticizes our perception of pretty much ALL things, it is not easy

I know that we can't control what happens within the schools but we do have control over one very important aspect within our children's lives: their H O M E.  By making a few changes, you can create a SAFE SPACE that boosts your children's self esteem and teaches them to help others who might have the signs of low self esteem, as well.

Five (5) Ways to Build a Positive Home Environment:

1. Provide Plenty of Praise
While it is important to Praise your child, too much can also hurt them.  Constant criticism will cause your child to doubt his abilities, but constant compliments can inflate his ego and can, in turn, cause him to put others down.  You need to find balance

Commend him for a job well done but don't be afraid to give CONSTRUCTIVE feedback also, when he needs it.

2. Show your kids Affection
Think about it, your having a bad day and someone special to you gives you an unexpected hug and tells you that they love  you, doesn't it make you feel good?

This can boost your child's confidence by reminding him that you care, but also it makes him comfortable when expressing his own emotions and in the future will make it easier for him to work through any troubles he might be dealing with.

3. Ban Negativity
We all get down on ourselves at times and it can be difficult to keep those thoughts quiet, but if you start small by prohibiting words that your child says the most, i.e. stupid, fat, ugly, you can build up to the negativity ban. I know that our children will still hear these words in school, but by banning them from the house, you can create an environment that is safe when she feels down.

4. Be a Good Role Model
I love to say that "We must lead by example" and it leaves a huge impact on our children. If you call yourself stupid or shy away from challenges, then your child is likely to follow suit

Look at each opportunity that presents itself to YOU as an opportunity to not only BUILD your child's confidence but BOOST your own as well.

I think that a great personal example is that I am building two business as an Independent Marketing Consultant and it is hard, everyday is tougher than the day before, but I am showing my girls that if I work hard, I stay positive and dedicated, that I will succeed

5. Spend Time Together
I, for one, totally get that every Mom needs alone time, but taking to much time to yourself can make your children feel like you don't care about them at all. Harsh, I know! But those tiny little minds are more complex than we give them credit for.

My suggestion... turn off your phone and spend some together time.  Engage your children, whether at the dinner table, playing at the park, or just taking some time to listen to your child talk. This helps your children know and feel important and also gives a BOOST to their self esteem!

Recipe of the Day: Snickerdoodle Mug Cake

Snickerdoodle Mug Cake

Snickerdoodle Mug Cake ~ bakes up in the microwave in just one minute, yielding a warm, cinnamon-sugary treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth! | FiveHeartHome.comHow many times have you had a sugar craving, only to discover that there aren't any cookies or cupcake or even a candy bar in the house?

Now that’s not always a bad thing, mind you…sometimes the only thing that prevents me from ingesting too much sugar is the fact that I made a point not to buy or make sweets in the first place. ðŸ˜‰

But other times, IneedsomethingsweetandIneeditrightNOW! And in those instances, spending a few minutes throwing together a microwave mug cake seems a bit more refined than scarfing chocolate chips straight out of the bag.

Ingredients
Snickerdoodle Mug Cake ~ bakes up in the microwave in just one minute, yielding a warm, cinnamon-sugary treat that will satisfy any sweet tooth! | FiveHeartHome.com:
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk, at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • For layering/topping:
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Directions
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and cinnamon until thoroughly, completely combined, with no streaks of any ingredients remaining. Blend in milk, butter, and vanilla until batter is smooth. Into a 14-ounce (or larger) microwave-safe mug with straight sides, scoop a big spoonful of batter, then sprinkle with a spoonful of cinnamon sugar. Alternate layers, ending with cinnamon sugar.
  2. Microwave on high for 1 to 1 1/2 minutes, or until cake is done to your liking. Allow to cool for a couple of minutes before serving.
Tips, Tricks, & Variations
A tall, cylindrical mug with straight (not angled) sides will ensure that the cake bakes evenly. I found a 14-ounce mug to be the perfect size to allow the cake to rise up while baking without overflowing. (I filled my mug to the top with water and then transferred the water to a measuring cup to determine its capacity.) If you use a smaller mug, you may want to bake the cake on top of a plate or paper towel to catch any possible overflow.
The strength of individual microwaves can vary. The first time you make this recipe, be prepared to experiment a bit to make sure that 1 minute is the perfect length of baking time. The nice thing about this cake is that even if it is under cooked, you don't have to worry about raw eggs!
Unsalted butter will work just fine in this recipe, but I find that using salted butter adds a tiny flavor boost.

10 WAYS TO USE PERISCOPE FOR BUSINESS

Twitter has really brought the house down with its newest app called Periscope. I say new, but it’s really been around for close to five months. So I’m a little behind, opps! (I'm new here!)

I’m sure that many of you have probably already heard of this live video streaming app because it’s amazing. I have only recently begun to see the beauty of it, but I’ve fallen in love and I’ve fallen fast and hard. It’s a really easy app to use, you can begin broadcasting video from your phone’s camera instantly, and you can open your app to watch amazing videos pretty much anytime.
Videos that can seriously help to improve your blog or business.
Long story short, if you’re not taking advantage of this incredibly and fast-growing social media platform, then you’re losing out.
If you’ve just recently jumped onto the Periscope bandwagon and you’re trying to figure out various ways that this app can really help your business’s marketing strategy, I’m sharing 10 ways to use Periscope for your biz with you now.

1. CUSTOMER SERVICE/SUPPORT

Have you had a number of customers/clients with the same issues over and over again? Host a live broadcast and invite them all so that you can discuss the issue and answer questions over live video. Seriously, Periscope has brought the customer service game to the next level. No longer will YouTube videos be a huge, serious thing. WE ARE LIVE.

2. PRODUCT DEMOS

Are you launching a new product? Whether it’s a physical product or an informational product, using Periscope to do a live run-through or demo of the product is genius. This way, your potential buyers are watching in real-time and can instantly ask you a question as soon as they have it and also immediately get an answer. Game changer.

3. CONDUCT INTERVIEWS

If you are fortunate enough to meet in person with another blogger/business owners or just someone that you know your followers will want to hear from, interview them. Host a live interview with that individual, ask your questions, but also keep an eye out for when other people shoot in questions. Using Periscope can help because someone else might have an incredible question for the person you’re interviewing that you hadn’t even thought of. It’s almost like a group effort but it’s not.

4. LIVE TOURS

I’ve seen several bloggers do home tour blog posts before. And we eat that up because we all want to know your life. Periscope is another great avenue for bloggers to do a home tour or for a business to do a live tour. Opening a new restaurant? Live tour that shit for your new customers? Opening a new hotel branch? Definitely live tour that shit!

5. EXCLUSIVE SALES, DISCOUNTS, AND PROMOS

Reward your Periscope viewers occasionally by including an incredible flash sale or discount code specifically for them for watching your broadcast(s). Not only will this bring in more sales directly because of your Periscope, but it will incentivize them to watch even more of your broadcasts. Seriously, it’s a win-win. What can go wrong?

6. RUN A Q+A SESSION

Again, this is something that I’ve seen bloggers address in a blog post or even an email newsletter. They take in questions and answer them all at once. That’s still a great idea if you’re a big influencer and you get a lot of questions (you could even consider creating an FAQ page to help people out as well). However, Periscope is an incredibly avenue for a Q+A. You’re setting aside a dedicated amount of time (15-30 minutes, or even an hour if you’re a superstar) and directly answering questions from your followers. This is huge for creating brand loyalty and just connecting with your customers/followers. Huge.

7. CONDUCT SURVEYS AND FOCUS GROUPS

There are few ways to go about this. Maybe you’re looking for feedback on a new redesign, logo, or product launch. Or maybe just have a few questions about what people think of your brand. You could gauge how much people like a new design or rebrand via hearts–the more hearts you get and the higher they rise on your screen, the more people like what you’re showing/saying to them. You could also ask questions and check out respondents’ answers in the comments section.

8. ANNOUNCEMENTS

People love announcements a lot more than we realize. If we give someone a hint that something big is coming soon, they are going to come back to find out what it is. We’re just nosy like that. Use Periscope as an avenue for live announcements, like a re-brand, or a new e-course, or that you’re running for president or something.

9. BEHIND-THE-SCENES

I’ve mentioned before how much I (and seriously everyone else) loves a good sneak peek of behind-the-scenes. It’s a great way to get your audience involved in what you’re doing. Working on a new informational product? Give out a little snippet of it and discuss your methods for working on it. Creating a new blog design? Give us a sneak peek of your branding board and talk about how you decided on certain design aspects. Show us your office/workspace area. We’re creatives…we love a good workspace tour.

10. INFORMATIONAL SESSION

Use Periscope to teach your followers something. Use it as an extension of your website. Get on camera and talk to your followers about how they can improve something, how they can start doing this, what they should be doing for that, what have you. Instead of creating a blog post about your next idea, turn it into a Periscope broadcast and give your followers a lesson.
